Firefox opens a run of tabs when clicking on a link to an e-mail or website

When trying to link to an email address, Firefox begins to open tabs quickly and I have to close down Firefox for it to stop opening the tabs. I also happens when clicking on a link for some websites.

Check the Mailto application in Firefox > Preferences > Applications Make sure that it isn't set to the Firefox application.
