By "Not available" do mean that it is grayed out or that it doesn't exist? If it is grayed out, you are probably in Private Browsing Mode. See Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history.

I, too, have a grayed out option of "clear recent history". The Mozilla bar does not indicate I'm in private browsing and the "stop private browsing" option is ALSO grayed out? I try to clear out my cache on a regular basis (left over habit from IE), but I always have to go into my control panel because I don't have the option under the Firefox tools!!!

Make sure that you not run Firefox in Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode. In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and some features like visited links and others are disabled and not working. You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing". See Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_Private_Browsing ..... You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History" To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history UnCheck: [[ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

I also do not have the option to "Clear Recent History" - it simply does not appear in any of my menus (FF 7.0.1). That option has disappeared from my IE7 as well, but I was able to restore it by making registry changes.

Is there a similar fox for Firefox?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
