Blank Canvas has caused Firefox to freeze

When I opened Gmail in Firefox today an error message pops up. I could not close it by either pressing Alt4 or clicking the X box in the corner. I could not get Gmail or any other functions to work. Seems to me as if Firefox was frozen. Using Task manager, I got it closed; but it closed Firefox as well. Sending this message in IE8.
