I have openSUSE FF (v.3.6.10) -- and it fails to show a lot of text on various websites; also, many of the links are shown as lines. Why is this?

Some webpages are worse than others. Currently, I can only reliably surf the web with a live Ubuntu CD -- which is how I'm able to currently to access this webpage.

Sounds like a problem with the fonts.

Try to disable the website fonts as a test and try a few different default (serif/sans-serif) fonts.

Edit > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors: Advanced: [ ] Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above

If that works then you need to reinstall the corrupted font.

  1. But now how do I find out which fonts were corrupted?
  2. And then how do I reinstall them?

Sorry for the extra questions, but I'm fairly clueless.....

You can try this test page to see if you can identify the font.
