I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox 6 times. I have run many registry fixer programs (free and purchased) including regedit and regsvr32. When I run Firefox, it runs as IE8 in Emergency Mode. It gives me a message that my PC is infected by a malicious software. It defaults to about:blank as the home page. If I type msn.com over the about:blank, it will take me to msn.com. But, it's still IE8 in emergency mode. If I run IE8, that works fine. MSN Premium does not. It works except for the download manager. I realize not all of my problems are Firefox related.

You may be infected by malware.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

Do you have any Firefox Extensions installed like "IE Tab" or names like this?. Firefox for Windows (or any OS) does not have such a mode like "Emergency Mode" nor is it a shell for IE as it is a completely separate application.

In Firefox look in "Tools->Addons->Extensions"

Also the AxtiveX version of Flash is for only IE and not non-IE modern browsers like Firefox.
