Why have I lost the ability to open a new tab? I have the new tab button available but it doesn't react when clicked on. I tried uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it, but i have the same problem. If i try to open a separate link, it automatically opens a new tab just fine? why can't i manually open a new one anymore. I have to now just open separate windows. I have made sure that tab browsing is enabled and the settings for the tabs are all in order. It just won't open a new one.

Try uninstalling the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and the current version of Firefox.
