Firefox keeps offering to remember passwords, even though I have unchecked the "Remember for sites" option

In Tools > Options > Security > Passwords, the first option is to "Remember passwords for sites" and it is checked. Every time I go to a website where a password is required, Firefox asks me if I'd like it to save the password.

I do not want Firefox to keep any password for any site. So, I unchecked this box. I thought it would turn off the feature. However, Firefox still asks, and the box keeps having a checkmark. I have closed and re-launched Firefox repeatedly. It still is a problem.

Any suggestions?

This issue can be caused by an extension.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Aha! I am not using any themes, but when I checked the Add-ons list there was one there that I did not have before. This is a new laptop from Dell; the FastAccess facial recognition security software (that I do not use) was triggering the problem. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction :)
