Opening a new tab loads an unwanted website instead of a blank page or my home page
Sometime in the last two weeks firefox stopped opening a blank page when I open a new tab, and instead is now opening yahoo.
I HATE yahoo with a passion and even after going through the programs thing and deleting any yahoo programs as well as going through registry of my computer and deleting everything related to yahoo it STILL opens #$^@#&#$^& yahoo in a new tab and so far as i can tell there is no setting in firefox to make it stop doing that! Any ideas?

{Ctrl + Shft + A} - look at your listing of installed extensions and see if you have any extensions that you don't recall installing or any that you don't know exactly what they do. Anything with search or Yahoo in the extension's name is a good place to start. You can disable any extension's that you don't recall installing and then test to see if it is the culprit.
I only have 3 things listed in there. One of wich is disabled and so far as i can tell there is no way to uninstall it, that has been there for a while though and caused no problems.
The addons i have are as follows
Freeze.com Net Assistant 3.6.5 And Microsoft.net framework assistant 0.0.0
The one that was disabled is Search Helper Extension 1.0 It is listed as having been disabled for my "protection" the strangest part being that there is no option to uninstall it.
Also .. strange i did not realise this before.. I actually completely uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it as an attempt to get this issue to stop. I told it to delete EVERYTHING including all personal information etc... So the fact that that add on is still there is perplexing..
That Freeze.com extension looks like a likely perpetrator, or maybe that Search "Helper" even though it is disabled.
But, if it installed itself after uninstalling Firefox and removing all Firefox personal data and customizations, you probably have something installed in Windows that reinstalled it into Firefox when you installed the fresh version of Firefox.
Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs (or whatever its' called in Vista)
Sorry that I can't be more help or know exactly what the cause is, but I don't install "toolbars" or questionable programs because I know from experience that garbage like that is many times a part of free download programs.
I already tried that as well there is nothing in the add/remove programs section even close to the name of the disabled add on =/
The Freeze.com NetAssistant is responsible for this issue and you need to uninstall (or at least disable) that extension.
