I am guessing that you want to do this since you have created lots of folders. There does not seem to be a direct way of searching for a folder but maybe the following will help:

  1. Go to Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks.
  2. Right click on Bookmarks Toolbar and Bookmarks Menu and select Sort by Name.
  3. Now it should be easier for you to locate the desired folder.

This approach will not work if you have folder within a folder.

Thanks for the reply dynamite, you guessed right. I have created lots of folders and folders within folders. I do sort them in them in the manner in which you describe but as you mention it does not work with a more sophisticated hierarchical tree.

Thanks anyway.

I think I saw a link here somewhere for suggesting improvements, maybe that's a one for the developers?

If you search for one specific bookmarks folder then you can click in the left pane of the Library and start typing the name quickly enough to make Firefox search for all characters. You need to repeat that for finding the next matching entry. That also works in the bookmarks sidebar, but that will also bring up bookmarks.

Hi cor-el, thanks for your reply.

No bookmarks folders appear in the bookmarks sidebar when I try the method you suggest just the matching bookmarks to the characters I type. Am I missing something.

Thanks

Make sure that you do not use the search bar, but click to the left of an icon where you want to start searching.

Did you try to do this in the left pane of the Bookmarks Manager?

That left pane only shows folders, so there it should work.

Click the orange Firefox button to open the Firefox menu and click the Bookmarks entry or click "Show All Bookmarks" to open the Library.

I was aware of the way to search for bookmarks by the two methods you describe i.e using either the library or the sidebar but once you start typing both methods only list the matching bookmarks and not the bookmark folders.

I am aware I can manually search for a folder by using the sidebar and library (I think you also refer to the library as the bookmarks manager) by opening up the hierarchial trees of the folders I have created. It can be a bit labourious when like me you have hundreds of bookmarks folders!

I've heard the orange firefox button being referred to before, if it's the firefox icon in the top left corner I do not get a file menu when clicking upon it?

(I've had to post the second paragraph of my reply here as for some reason the font changed after posting and half of the text has gone astray. Editing the post did n't help either)
