Unable to delete histroy in Google search by clicking on "Clear Histroy"
I recently upgraded to version 4 but had the same trouble with V 3.6, as I am unable to clear the search history in the drop down box on the left of the screen by clicking on "Clear search History".
I have be unable to find a way to trouble shoot the problem or to rectify the problem and no error code shows up.

Does that entry get grayed indicating that there is no history if you select in once?
You can try Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the search history.
Make sure that you do not get confused by Use popular search suggestions in the Firefox Search bar.
The "Search Suggestions" are not your search history.
The search suggestions are loaded in real time by querying the (Google) search engine site based on what you typed so far in the search bar.
If "Clear Search History" is grayed out then the history is cleared or disabled.
