Firefox froze for several minutes, so I closed it in Task Manager. When I restarted it, I was unable to access more than two windows worth of tabs that had been open in the last session, with all other tabs apparently having been deleted. Is there a way to retrieve the lost tabs?

I've had no problem restoring 20-40 tabs on a window and a few on another window.

Would suggest however that you set browser.sessionstore.max_concurrent_tabs to 0 in about:config

More information on configuration variables available in about:config (entries) and for users not familiar with the process there is about:config (How to change) -- Specialized list of only Tabs configuration variables.

You can make Firefox 4.0.1 look like Firefox 3.6.17, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)

Do you see any Restored Closed Tabs or Windows in the History menu?

The pref browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo is 3 by default, so you can only undo 3 windows at most.

The problem seems to be that the saving of tabs was interrupted, and I was wondering if there's a way to bring up an older save or change options so that it doesn't overwrite the old save file without telling the user or freezing the program. None of the tabs or windows were in the closed list, the program has had no trouble with large numbers of tabs or windows before, and nothing had been changed since the session before, which was restored with no problems.
