Version 4 and 5 mixed up
I've recently updated the Firefox to version 5 with Update Manager. After starting Firefox I found out, that it is still version 4.0.1, even if Synaptic Package Manager shows 5.0 Recently I found out, that the old FF4.0.1 is in the directory /opt/firefox, and the new FF 5.0 is in /usr/lib/firefox. All starting icons are linked to the old one. How can I uninstall the FF 4 and update the icons?

Did you install that 4.0.1 version yourself in that location?
If you did then you can remove that folder and create a new desktop shortcut that links to the version in /usr/lib/firefox
You may need to check the system settings for the default browser or let Firefox make itself the default browser.
Well, I installed the FF 4.0.1 there according a published procedure, nothing special or non-standard. I can't delete the folder normally, only with sudo, do you think it is ok just simply delete the folder? Thanks.
If you need to use sudo then that means that it is installed as root by the system software installation and in that case it is better to uninstall from there to remove instead of deleting folders.
But I can't uninstall, because when I look into synaptic it shows the latest version 5.0. It is totaly mess. I deleted the opt/firefox folder with sudo, removed the 5.0 from synaptic, rebooted the computer, installed the 5.0 with synaptic and now I can't run it, even if it is installed. In terminal "sudo apt-get install firefox" shows it is already installed, but when I enter "firefox" it shows a message it is not installed. No uninstall and install help and I don't know what to do.
You may have to install additional mozilla packages like mozilla xulrunner20 if those got removed
You can check for error messages if you start Firefox via a terminal widow.
