Most add-on toolbars can be disabled or removed here:
orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Add-ons
On the left side, click Extensions, then scan down until you find it.

I knew it would be easy but just didn't know where to start. It's amazing how much easier life is when there's someone around who knows what they're doing!
