When I go to a website from somewhere down the displayed list, after scrolling down, and then return from that website, the FF screen does not show the 'somewhere', but shows the entire displayed list from the top. How can I get FF to come back showing the 'somewhere' hit? I find the current method really annoying and a time-waster, especially if I'm deep down the scrolled list of hits.

This is not new to FF, and has existed since at least FF3.

I've tried this with and without AutoPager. Same results.

Have you tried opening the link in a new tab? Doing that, your original tab will remain in the position that you left it. To open a bookmark or a link in a new tab:

  • middle-click the link or bookmark (middle-click = press the mouse scroll wheel
  • right-click the link or bookmark and choose Open in New Tab
  • hold down the Ctrl key while left-clicking the link or bookmark

This does help!

But this leads to another question. The Help for the Tabs options (see clip image below) seems to say that I can set 'open new windows in tabs' as a default. Where is this? I can't find it in the options.

Thanks.

Options > Tabs, first item

Read carefully what the snippet says:

  • "links from other applications" (i.e., e-mail)
  • "or from web pages which request to open them in new windows" (controlled by the code/software on the web site)

Here is information on the Options > Tabs panel. It needs to be updated with a current image for Firefox 5.
