'New Window' does not open window. OSX 10.6.8, FF 5.01

Cold starting FF brings up a window. Tabs can be added to window. Clicking 'New Window' seems to do nothing.

Close window and then click FF icon seems to do nothing. Again, clicking 'New Window' seems to do nothing.

Quit FF. Click icon and window appears.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
