Hi-

I am currently using Ubuntu 10.04's packaged version of Firefox 3.6 I would like to upgrade to Firefox 8. I saw this note in the support help, "Note: If you use your Linux distribution's packaged version of Firefox, you will need wait for an updated package to be released to its package repository. This article only applies if you installed Firefox manually (without using your distribution's package manager).

My question is, will I need to uninstall the pkg'd version in order to upgrade to v8?

Firefox 8 is currently the Aurora channel that gets daily updates.

If you do not want that then it is better to stay on the Release or Beta channel

Hi Cor-el-

Thanks for the reply. I still consider myself an Ubuntu newbie for certain things so please forgive me if I don't know something. 2 additional questions:

1. I would like to get Firefox 8 installed, but I don't know what you mean by Aurora channel. Is that something that I could specify in Ubuntu's Synaptic Pkg Manager?

2. Should I uninstall my FF 3.6 before installing the newer version?

Thanks in advance,

-Bill

You should install the latest official release (currently Firefox 6.0.2) and not a test version offered via the Aurora or the Beta channel.

Those test versions are meant for experienced users to test future Firefox versions and report bugs if found, so they can be fixed before that version is released officially.

Hi Cor-el-

I un-installed FF 3.6 and installed FF 6 without any problems. Ubuntu and Firefox are a blessing.

Thanks for your help.
