My problems started when I downloaded Ilivid downloader, after I loaded the program and watched the short video the program started messing up my computer. It spread itself all over my hard drive, changed my homepage, my search engine, locked me out of being able to change certain settings, made some of its files undeleteable and since then my firefox will not load. I removed my version of firefox and reinstalled it several times. I still got the same response. I went into the registry and deleted all references to Mozilla and Firefox and reinstalled it again, same response. I spent days trying to delete all references to ilivid downloader and every file I could find that made any reference to ilivid. I hope you can help me with my problem. I like using firefox and would like to start using it again. Thanks

Try closing any running instances of firefox.exe (and plugincontainer.exe) using something such as Task Manager. That should allow you to then restart Firefox.

As for iLivid. Possibly it also has associated apps or extensions with names not including the word iLivid. Looking at their own FAQs there are instructions to remove iLivid using the Windows Control panel, and mention of other bundled software that you may wish to remove. It seems it is more of a nuisacne rahter than out and out malware.

How do I uninstall the software?
The software can be removed in a simple was like any other software:

Go to the Windows Start menu and then to Control Panel > Add/Remove ("Programs & Features" in Vista & Windows 7) and click "Remove" next to the software name (e.g iLivid Download manager / Windows iLivid Toolbar ). During the installation bundle software are offered, each can easily be removed following those instructions: Uninstall Yontoo Addon , Uninstall Search Toolbar (powered by Bing) or Uninstall Babylon.

The first thing I tried was to remove the software in control panel, after I started up firefox for the first time after installing ilivid and my computer started dumping my harddrive on the internet. I did an emergency shutdown and since then I started getting the message about another firefox was running in the background but not responding. Also, my weekly average of e-mails has been 2-4, since this happened I get between 110 to 160 a day. I have tried using both task manager and Alt F4 to shut down the other firefox. Windows shows that no other software is running, but I still get the message. I have deleted all references to both mozilla and firefox on my hard drive and in the registry and tried several brand new installs and every time I do, I start getting the message again. I have since installed google chrome and I am sometimes using internet explorer. I don't seem to have any problems with anything but firefox.

You could have malware or you may still have some odd bundled software on your system still that is starting firefox up. If you have been doing emergency shutdowns you could have ended up with multiple copies of session restore files.

You could try deleting the files and their copies and backups. You will loose information if you try this - your tabs from previous sessions - but you may bookmark them as a method of keeping track, or look them up in your History.

Find your profile, the easy method is

  • Help -> Troubleshooting Info -> Profile Directory [open containing folder]

Exit firefox normally (File -> exit)

  • Now delete the files in the profile sessionrestore.js ,sessionrestore.bak & any similar with a number at the end.
