Hi SeanKilkenny2012,

You should look at this article about that specific issue and the article Preferences not saved.

Hopefully this helps!

Hi Matt_G,

Thanks for the support, but having followed the steps in the article, it still loads two tabs - 'Welcome to Firefox' and my original homepage. I appreciate your help and advice, though. (It's good to belong to a community like this.) Hope you have a good holiday.

Hi Sean,

Try this:

  1. Type about:config in the address bar
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise if prompted
  3. In the Filter input field type startup
  4. Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
  5. Delete the text string and click OK
  6. Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.

It's a bit more "technical" than most people want, but it should work.

I remembered having this problem before and another solution which did work for me this time. Go to Help... Troubleshooting Information...Profile Directory...Open Containing Folder. Once this folder is open, Be Sure to Close Down all open Firefox Browsers. This folder contains the Firefox settings. I renamed the user.js file to user.js.old and I renamed the prefs.js file to prefs.js.old. I then re-opened Firefox and everything worked fine. If there was a problem I could have renamed the 2 .js (Java Script) files from .old back to their original name. Just remember to make note of where the folder is that contains the Firefox settings if you are unable to open Firefox. I have done this procedure several times and never had a problem re-opening Firefox. It seems to re-create at least the prefs.js file. The user.js file was not re-created, but it seems like it doesn't matter. I hope this helps someone.
