I understand there are instructions on how to import favorites from IE, but I do not want a separate folder within the Bookmarks. I want Firefox Bookmarks to look like IE so when I click on Bookmarks all the same links appear as they do in IE; not a tab for IE links. Is there a way to sync the folders so if I add a link (favorite) in IE it will show up in Firefox (bookmark) and vice-versa?

You can move the imported IE Favorites out of the "From Internet Explorer" folder to another folder or the main Bookmarks Menu or Bookmarks Toolbar folder.
