when I try to add Firefox Sync by opening an account, I can't verify the process the page stops loading with a message saying a script on this page may have stopped responding.

Can you try Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode? It seems that one of your add-ons is messing up with the set-up process.
