Firefox has been frequently crashing since I installed Mac's new Mountain Lion OS.

Is this just coincidental?

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
  2. Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.

Thanks in advance for your help!

More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

Actually when I first used your emailed link it crashed so I just took a screenshot.

That screenshot is unfortunately useless. We need the crash Id's.

  1. Open the Finder by clicking the smiley face icon in the dock.
  2. Navigate to the following directory: ~ / Library / Application Support / Firefox / Crash reports / submitted.
  3. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Click the gear icon in the toolbar (or open the View menu), then select Arrange by > Creation date to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  4. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  5. Paste each ID into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

You can find more information and troubleshooting steps in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

I think this is it?

Yes, that is where they would be (BTW, screenshots of them aren't helpful as we have to try to read the numbers and enter them in by hand, copy and paste is best), but those look like they are from June.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

I'll try resetting it.

There was no Library in the Finder. There was an Application Support under the HD, but I saw no Firefox.

This is weird! After trying to find Firefox in the Library unsuccessfully, I used MacKeeper Uninstaller to remove Firefox from my Applications to see if it would help to download Firefox and reinstall it and now instead of the Firefox icon in the dock I'm getting a ? mark.

Now the Firefox icon is showing for some reason. I'll have to see if Firefox stops crashing now. Thanks.

I have to add that I also have this problem.

After about 30 seconds of opening FF it freezes up (just trying to access the crash reports/preferences/menus is a hassel).

When I finally opened about:crashes, the latest submitted report is from June, not today, so I think it will be useless!

I'll try the reset and see what happens.

On a side note, I've also upgraded my iMac to Mountain Lion, however still using FF 12 (because it won't upgrade itself to 14), and this setup still works fine.

For future reference, on your missing ~ / Library / Application Support / Firefox / folder:

Starting in Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) the ~/Library folder (which contains the profile folder for Mozilla applications) is hidden by default. You can open it by holding down the Option key while opening the Go menu in Finder, then selecting Library. Once it's open, you can drag the small icon of a folder in the header of the Library's window into the Favorites section of the Sidebar, where it will be conveniently accessible whenever you want. [ref.] For other solutions see this osxdaily article or this CNET article.

Thanks for all the information.

When I couldn't take the steps that I was advised to take because the Library folder was hidden, I used my MacKeeper's Uninstaller to remove Firefox.

Then I went to the Mozilla/Firefox site and downloaded it again and reinstalled the 14.0.1 version. I had to find the Add-ons I still wanted and redo some bookmarks.

Thus far ( fingers crossed ) I've haven't had another crash. ( I now have the Library folder in my Favorites sidebar. )

tongil, if you are still having troubles (and you should update to Firefox 14 immediately to stay secure) then you can start your own new thread :)
