Firefox v17.0.1 continuously crashes or stalls especially when left "alone" and then I come back to it and it is dead in the water. The screen is frozen to where I have to kill the process to regain control of the computer.

Here are the last 5 reports:

These reports do not seems to have been submitted.

Do you have crash report that have a "bp-" prefix?

The only ones that had that prefix were old.

Did you check out the knowledge base articles for common causes and things to try?

Yes, but I didn't really find anything that helpful. I tried running in Safe Mode and I tried running without any Add-ons or Extensions. I posted not long ago about the current tab not being able to be closed. I would have to go to another tab and then close the tab I wanted to close. Then if I closed Firefox, it would work again for a while. that is repeatable. This freezing thing happens "when it feels like". I haven't found a pattern. I leave Firefox open all of the time and often with multiple tabs open. Usually it works fine, but often enough, when I come in and "wake-up" the computer, it will be frozen and I will have to kill the process. Sometimes, I come in and the computer never "went to sleep" and it is just frozen.

I deleted all of the crashes so it would start new...some of them referred back to another computer that was running XP. That was more than a year ago and yet the date was Dec. of this year. Didn't understand that one.

I don't know what the deal is...if something is getting corrupted or hung in memory or what, but it is certainly a real pain.

I think I made a mistake :( I think I made a new profile and deleted all of the information in my old profile. Now when I start Firefox, there are no bookmarks, or history or anything. It starts with the most basic "start page" I have ever seen. No Add-ons or Extensions, etc. Nothing!!!

Is there a way to restore the old profile so I can get some of the information from it?

I looked at "Recovering important data from an old profile", but I don't see where that information is to restore.

This will teach me to do something first thing in the morning before my first cup of coffee.......

Is there something I can do to recover the hundreds of bookmarks and other aspects that I would want to keep after I have deleted the old profile?

Please let me know.

Thank you.

Only a reset tries to import some data to the newly created profile. If you use the Profile Manager to create a new profile then you need to transfer files manually, but that at least make it still possible to fix the original profile if that succeeds to identify the problem.

See the above posted articles about how to recover ()transfer) data from an older profile.

If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, passwords, cookies, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).

from Windows Start button go and type %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ in the Search box at the bottom of the Start menu, without pressing Enter. A list of profiles will appear at the top of the Start menu, if you have another profile(except the current) open it and see if you have places.sqlite file (it is the file bookmarks are store).

if you reset firefox (basicaly the reset feature works by creating a new profile folder for you while saving your: bookmarks, browsing history, passwords, cookies, web form auto-fill information) and you have the "Old Firefox Data" file on your desktop, then you are ok, see : Copying files between profile folders

thanks again

I used Profile Manager and created a new profile, then I deleted the old profile. Now all I see using C:\Users\Kiaya\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles is the new profile and everything is dated with today's date.

I can't find any old information. If you delete an old profile, does it get ride of all of the information related to that profile? If not, where would that be kept? I also lost information on add-ons like TooManyTabs where I had tons of things stored.

If you use the Firefox Profile Folder to delete a profile and click the button to remove the files then all data stored in that profile is lost.
If you delete the profile folder yourself on disk then your data is also lost. A reset should have moved the profile folder to the desktop where you still can access it.

Does that new profile work better or do you still have crashes?

If the extensions store their data in a separate file in the profile folder then you can copy the involved file(s) to the current profile folder. Some extensions also store data as a pref in the prefs.js file and in such a case it is best to use an editor to copy that data to the prefs.js file in the current profile folder.
