I have bookmarks showing up in recently bookmarked when I have not bookmarked them and I haven't visited the site. They are all for BBC. I tried to delete BBC from my bookmarks in the past and it wouldn't delete. I don't know if this had anything to do with this problem. Have I been hacked?

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Neither of your suggestions got rid of the recently bookmarked that I did NOT bookmark. ? How can I have recently bookmarked webpages that I never visited or bookmarked?

Were you able to remove those bookmarks after deleting the places.sqlite file(s)?

Are those regular BBC sites or sites that may have come up from a BBC Headlines feed entry?

I don't remember how I got rid of them. I may have found how to delete them after or before. I really don't remember. I just know I clicked on bookmarks and went to show all bookmarks clicked on unsorted , clicked on the gear symbol and clicked on delete. I notice that now when I go through the same process to see if I can delete anything else, the list is a light gray instead of black and whenever it's light gray I can't click on anything in the list. I don't know why that is. I got rid of places.sqlite and another one that said corrupted. I wrote you the reply that none of the things you suggested worked before I found the way to get rid of the list. I just kept trying to find a way to do it and I did but I couldn't tell you if the way I said I thought I did it is the way I actually did it. I'm still trying to figure out what I can do on this iMac and I've had it for 3 yrs. I don't know what you mean by a feed entry. I just know that when I clicked on the link it took me to a BBC webpage. At any rate. I did get rid of the unsorted list of BBC bookmarks that I didn't add so I guess the problem is fixed. It made me feel spooky, tho, to have stuff bookmarked that I didn't do. Thanks for all your help. :)

BTW, for some reason the BBC bookmark did disappear from my list but I don't know how or why because I had stopped trying to delete it, that and another on for one of my Senators that was a duplicate. ???? Another mystery!
