That's strange. As long as you accept cookies at least for the duration of your session, you usually only need to enter your credentials once.
You could try enabling Firefox to pass your Windows logon to your intranet server. Obviously you would only do this with servers you trust.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste ntlm and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris and enter or add your intranet server name. If, hypothetically the host name was intranet (e.g., http://intranet/our_app/) enter intranet or, if other servers already are listed, add a comma and then intranet.
Does that make any difference?
Also, if the navigation works most of the time but you are prompted for every single image, I suggest restarting Firefox and trying again.
The following also might help in that situation: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
- right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
Thanks Jscher, after deleting the cache and cookies it worked.
Great! Thanks for reporting back.
I've had the same issue using firefox on a Mac. Our network uses Windows Server 2003 and is a mixture of Windows XP, 7 and Mac client machines.
Adding the Intranet sites into network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris works on the Windows machines but it is not working on the Mac, it still prompts for the password in every session. Do you know if there is a way of configuring Firefox to use the network credentials on the Mac.
Hi andy390, I'm not familiar with how MacOS X shares Windows credentials between different machines. Which version of the OS are you running? Does Safari handle it well?
Safari loads it correctly but not Firefox. It's running on OS X 10.8 - Moutain Lion
