I delete emails from inbox and they will reappear at various times (the whole trash folder reappears in my inbox) and I have to delete them again and again.

I delete emails from inbox. They go to trash mail. The emails in the trash folder will then reappear in my inbox. I then have to delete them again and again and again. Why is this happening? How do I fix it?

Not a Firefox problem, but an issue with your webmail. Do you have devices synced with your mail that could be reverting this? Try to contact your email host.

I do not have any other devices on which I get email. I have att/yahoo. I have had several email problems and when I call them they say it is a problem with my browser settings. Cannot get them to work on these problems.

This is standard guidance, but maybe it will help...

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove your Yahoo cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

This will open a dialog where you can remove the individual cookies.

Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does it work any better?

Thank you both for your help. I had already done both suggestions 1 and 2. Except when I went to view page info VIEW cookies I was not sure which cookies to delete. Do i select remove all cookies the site is yahoo.com but it has cookies for sites other than yahoo in it. Do I delete all the cookies are just the ones with "yahoo" in the titles. Also I may not know immediately if this fixes the problem as it appears to be an intermittent problem occurring 3 or 4 times a month. AGAIN THANKS to everyone for the help.

If you have yahoo.com in the search box at the top of the dialog, then all of the cookies are set by Yahoo. I think it's safer to remove them individually.

None of this helped today I had 140 messages in my in box - 100 of them are emails that I deleted as long as 8 months ago. I have been emptying my trash folder after I delete messages to ensure the messages are gone, but they keep reappearing - where are they coming from?

Is this with an online mail service or with a program like Thunderbird?

If your question is about the Thunderbird program then a good place to ask advice is at the MozillaZine Thunderbird Support forum.
That forum is better suited for questions about Thunderbird, this forum is aimed at support for Firefox.

I have no idea what thunderbird is. I am running Firefox 20.0.1 with att yahoo mail. where did you see thunderbird mentioned in this thread?

Firefox doesn't have the capability to resurrect deleted email messages. I really don't know how that is possible.

The next time you see the problem, could you open Internet Explorer and compare Inboxes?
