Every time I log into a site, I'm asked by Firefox whether I want it to remember the password. But it never takes "yes" as an answer.

Hello,
In order to better assist you with your issue please provide us with a screenshot. If you need help to create a screenshot, please see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?
Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box. This will help us to visualize the problem.
Thank you!
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

It is possible that there is a problem with the key3.db and signons.sqlite files that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox.
Rename the key3.db and signons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.
You can add .old to the file names (key3.db.old and signons.sqlite.old) or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action.
You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost.
If that has worked then you can remove the renamed files that are no longer needed.
See:
- "Troubleshooting" in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Password_Manager
I don't think that will work, because the problem is when Firefox asks me whether I want to remember the password for the site I'm at, I press yes, and Firefox doesn't accept the answer. Being that I'm already, at that moment, clicking REMEMBER PASSWORD, I don't see how I can also save the screenshot.
Did you try to rename or move the signons.sqlite and key3.db files?
Do you see any passwords in the Password Manager?
- Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
Removed them, no master password.
still no solution.
What do you mean by Firefox not accepting the password? What error message do you get? How do you know Firefox is not accepting it?
Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
@feer56: I mean that the option to save the password comes up and I click yes, and nothing happens. The box I clicked in to indicate that I do want to save the pw remains open and the question is still there. Then sure enough, the next time I go to the same site, I'm offered a chance to save the pw again, because it wasn't saved the prior time, even though I (tried to, anyway) clicked yes.
I just went to a site to try & recreate the problem and found myself logged in immediately. I saved a master password the other day, after seeing the idea mentioned in answers to this question. Could that be why?
What website is this?
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows:
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
@feer56: Will I have to reinstall all my add-ons and extentions when I reinstall it?
Yes, but you can back it up or write down the names so you can install them back.
It took me a while to find the time to do this, but now that I have I did it and nothing's changed. What now??
Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you anymore and you need to sign in once again.
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
- do not clear the Cookies
- do not clear the Site Preferences
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified or selected cookies including cookies that have an allow exception and cookies from plugins.
What I mean is I go to a site and the box comes up in the upper right corner of the screen offering to remember the password I just entered. I go to click yes and nothing happens. I can sit there all day clicking yes, and nothing WILL happen. On the other hand, if I click no, or not at this time, that answer will be readily accepted. Or if I ignore it, it will go away.
Now I have a possibly stupid question: when you told me to uninstall Firefox, was I also supposed to remove it from Programs & Features, in the Control Panel? I did only what you told me to do, which didn't include that part.
Just to be sure:
You did remove the signons.sqlite and key3.db files in the Firefox profile folder?

I deleted it using the control panel. Was that how I was supposed to do it? I will try and do the safe mode thing tonight, if I have time, and report back to you how that works out.
