Firefox Loses Window Focus, Mouse Button profiles change to default

I have a G700 mouse, which supports various hotkey profiles. For default profile, i have most buttons disabled. For games, i have game-specific hotkeys, and for firefox, i have firefox specific hotkeys (new tab, close tab, etc).

There are 2 times that I notice this behavior:

1) During regular browsing, clicking on various links causes firefox to lose focus, and the mouse software reverts from the "firefox" profile to the "default" profile. Interacting with firefox in any way does not fix this problem. the only way for firefox to become the default profile again is to click a different window or on the desktop, and then click back into firefox. The profile seems to be lost right after clicking a (javascript) link, though the number of links clicked is arbitrary. I cannot reproduce this issue with any fixed results (number of click, time period before losing focus, etc). But I can reproduce this issue reliably.

When the mouse buttons stop working, the keyboard hotkey shortcuts DONT stop working. I dont have to re-select the firefox window to use keyboard shortcuts, I only have to do that if i want to use the mouse shortcut.

2) If I am in private browsing mode, clicking links (specifically for websites that contain flash) causes the window which contains flash to move into the background and the non-private window becomes the foreground. Again, the mouse loses focus and the only way to regain focus is to manually click the window or to click away on a non-firefox object, then click the window. I believe this is a flashplayer based issue, though, and is unrelated to the profiles issue. When this happens, any interaction with a flash video also forces firefox's KEYBOARD hotkeys to not work. Ctrl+w and ctrl+t dont do anything, hitting escape does not give firefox control over keyboard hotkeys, and hitting "tab" only selects elements within the flash object. For youtube, it cycles through various clickable controls.

EDIT: I have tried resetting the firefox profile and using a completely new profile, and i have also tried syncing profiles. This is a persistent problem.

You lose out-of-flash hotkeys because flash hotkeys take over. This issue has been around for a long time and needs a proper implementation of html5 to fix I believe. There may be an addon around that will do what you want though.

Perhaps updating to Firefox 23 will fix the profile issue. Sadly I am not familiar with logitech's driver software. For what it's worth, I've never had this issue with Razer's driver.

Im more concerned with regular browsing and losing profile focus. Chrome doesnt have this issue, neither does microsoft word or any game ive played. Firefox is the only application to exhibit this issue, and it doesnt seem to do this on all installations, just my specific one at home. Ive already contacted logitech about the software and they couldnt reproduce the issue.

It leads me to believe i have a configuration problem with firefox in my profile. I tried simply importing my passwords/bookmarks into a brand new profile and that fixed nothing.

The firefox info you see in my post is not really relevant, its my work laptop. My home computer uses latest update of firefox and latest G700 logitech gaming software.

Perhaps you could work around it by using your default profile and customize your firefox hotkeys to do the same things your firefox profile does?

Yeah, i tried that too. setting my default profile as the default firefox keys works out, but its not really a solution. Not unless I can change windows specific stuff to the firefox hotkeys or change firefox hotkeys to the same thing as windows. Its as good of a solution as switching to chrome is, and both are simply workarounds rather than actual solutions.

I have the exact same problem shirmants has. I'm experiencing it with both the Logitech M510 and M705. I don't use private browsing much so I don't know if its the same there but I have the exact issue in #1 word for word.

Odd thing is I've noticed it happening with increasing frequency recently a month ago it might happen once a week and I wont eve notice it. Now it happens every day. I'm going to try a systems reset to see what happens.

I too have noticed the problem in number 1 has increased in frequency. Drastically even. Before it used to be once every 10-15 minutes. Now its every few clicks to the point where I dont even bother using the shortcut keys anymore.

I would like to add something VERY peculiar:

I just noticed that my mouse profile bindings stopped working again, but instead of clicking off to the side and re-clicking the firefox window, I simply tried the actual keyboard buttons. THEY WORK STILL. This tells me that either logitech software is not properly detecting the currently selected window or firefox is not properly reporting the current window. Either the key bindings should completely fail regardless of input source or the keybindings should work on both devices. Not this.

To clarify my focus and key binding seems to sometime happen independently. Sometimes Firefox will jump to another window when I am just reading and not pushing any button just moving the mouse around.

The systems reset seems to have worked. Both seems to still happen but with much less frequency. But I've only been using it for a few hours. I'll report back tomorrow about if its really reduced.

Using systems restore to go back 2 weeks seems to have worked somewhat. Its still happens but with less frequency. Are you using firefox 22 or 23. I'm using 22 23 had some issues displaying some thing so I've held off. Have you tried updating?

I'm using Firefox 23. This has been a problem since I got my mouse in September ish of 2012. As I stated, I've worked with logitech on this issue, they have no idea why it happens because only firefox exhibits this behavior. No other app on my computer does this and Firefox reset and clean profile do not do anything to solve the problem. Using logitech logging, I can produce a log and output of whenever the profile switches. I might be able to use logitech scripting to output debug information about what exactly causes it but that would take dev time I don't have.

Hello,

Did anyone find a solution for this annoying problem? I tried contacting Logitech but they didn't know the solution.

there is a problem with flash, so the window will always lose focus (ie if you have 2 windows, the active window will get sent to the background).

However, to fix the G700 button problem in particular, instead of using Logitech Gaming Software, you must use regular Logitech Setpoint. There are old versions of it, I dont remember quite which version works but the latest setpoint will NOT WORK. The latest setpoint does not recognize the mouse because gaming products transitioned to LGS.

Thus, use an older version of Logitech Setpoint after uninstalling all of the other mouse products from your system.
