How do I stop a new dialog from coming up while I enter my master password?

more options

When I first enter a webpage with a password on file Firefox prompts me for the master password. I have been having repeated difficulties with a new master password dialog opening up and taking the focus before I have finished entering the password.

Now that I know what is going on I can cancel the new dialog and finish my entry, but it is really annoying and distracting.

Any help would be appreciated.

FRED.

Your post gave me the necessary clue. I simplified the start-up as much as possible by setting a blank home page. Now if I wait a few seconds a single prompt, which I assume is the one which disrupted me, for the master password appears. Perhaps it appears because I have sites with saved logins on my favorites bar. I intend to investigate further.

In any case, this is a more comfortable solution than inserting an add-on.

Thanks for your help.

Disable the master password feature from the Settings window.

You can have multiple prompts for the Master Password if you (re)open multiple tabs with web pages that you have saved a password from.

You can look at this extension:

That would work but would deprive me of the functionality I was seeking when I enabled the master password.

Note that if you use Firefox Sync then you need to provide the Master Password to make it possible to access the name and password for Sync and the sync key stored in the Password Manager.

Yes. That is exactly what I found. Once I had the blank home page set up I was able to force the prompt to come earlier by forcing a sync. When I disabled synchronization the prompt no longer came.

I believe it would be a better design if when starting with synchronization enabled Firefox were to render a blank page, force synchronization, and following synchronization to render the homepage (or if it does this to restore the previous session). Since Firefox is going to force a master password entry some time it would be better to do so in a predictable manner.

Oh, the joys of an event driven application!

Thanks again,

FRED.

Asking someone to disable their master password is lame. Thats not a solution.
