I can't download Java 7 update 40 on firefox (or on IE). I have tried everything suggested in the forum here and keep getting the same message:

'The connection was reset whilst the page was loading..'

(All my other pages/searches are loading fine).

It seems to have started when my pc did an automatic update to Windows 9, so when nothing else worked, I uninstalled Windows 9 and am now running Windows 8 but Java still not working. I have uninstalled all the old version of Java in my programmes, including all the 'toolkits' etc. Not sure if that was good idea, but done now.. I checked the enable java in all the internet options boxes etc as told to on the forums.

My Windows Vista is running on 32 bit operating system - always has... Could this be the problem? Is the new Java 7 update for 64 bit? However, when i try and follow the instructions on the Java site for downloading for 32bit, I get the same problem and same standard page showing me there was a connection problem etc..

I don't know if this is a Firefox problem or an IE one? It won't download on IE either.. and i have checked all the boxes there etc, tried disabling firewall etc..

I see on the Firefox plug ins, something called java tookkit is disabled due to safety and i cannot alter that setting... is that the problem?? I have only basic, laymans pc knowledge...can;'t do complicated stuff, but is there a simple thing i have got wrong here, or is this a well known firefox fault... with this Java? if it is what should i do next?

thanks v much rhian

I had the same problem on Saturday, Oct 12 and Sunday, Oct 13. However, I was able to successfully download and install update 40 this morning (Monday, Oct 14). It must have been a problem with Java's download site since the problem occurred in both Firefox and IE, and it appears to be fixed now.

What is Windows 9, though i don't use windows i haven't heard new about windows 9, think its a malware, the form software detects that your OS is win Vista .

Is the download getting stuck in the java download-er, or when firefox is downloading the initial file.

If its getting stuck when downloading in Java Download-er then is a problem with Java installer or your OS.
