Pages keep freezing every 10 seconds until cursor is moved.
This has been going on for a few days now. Every 10 seconds or so the pages freeze, either loading a page or watching videos.
I've tried:
- Turn off hardware acceleration - Reinstalled flash - Reset Firefox - Clear cookies and cache - Restart in safe mode and troubleshoot plugins (Disabled all plugins) - Reinstall Firefox.
After trying all these solutions, problem still persists. I'd really rather not switch to Chrome, so you can someone help me fix this?

hello aesthete18, we had similar reports by other users but the root of the problem hasn't been found yet. could you go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste it into a reply here on on the forum?
please also test once if the same problem is occurring when you boot windows in safemode by pressing F8 during startup: www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true

maybe another thing to try: does it make a difference when you update to the latest graphics driver available for your system?: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%20XP%20-%20Professional/Home&RenderOnServer=true
is the problem immediately reproducible? it would greatly help narrowing down the cause of this display issue if an advanced user affected by this could run the regression testing tool from http://harthur.github.io/mozregression/ in order to find out in which nightly version the bug first appeared.
since the regression apparently showed up sometime in version 25, this would be the command you need to run in the tool initially:
mozregression --good=2013-06-24 --bad=2013-08-05
then nightly versions of the browser from this range will be downloaded and opened automatically & lets you specify if the build is good (=bug free) or bad until the exact date of when the error first occurred is established.
thank you for your help!
Is there a fix for this bug yet???? Its driving me nuts!!!
hello GMB57, please refer to bug# 933733 to track the progress in getting the issue resolved.
you might want to use firefox 24 for the moment: Install an older version of Firefox
Thanks very much!!..I downloaded version 24 and all is good!!!
This is a great solution. Firefox 24 works great, such a relief to have the problem gone. I'd recommend this solution for now, at least by the the next update the problem should be resolved and we can go back to the latest version. Thank you Philipp
Is there a way to turn off the auto update. It keeps updating to the new version.
you can change your update settings in firefox > options > advanced > updates.
please also note that tomorrow there will be a release of firefox 26 beta 4 which likely won't be affected by this issue any longer: mozilla.org/beta
Okay thanks! I'll let it update the next time I restart.
hey, firefox won't automatically update to a beta version, you'd have to download it separately from mozilla.org/beta and install it on top of your current firefox. firefox 26 beta 4 is already available...
Thanks for all your help and work getting this fixed!!!
you're very welcome GMB57 - have you by chance tried FF26 beta already & have any feedback on it? because it's still depending on that if the backout of the changes that caused the regression will make it into a 25.0.1 release...
Seems to be working great so far....Thank you!
hey, just to keep you updated - there is now a fix available for firefox 25, which should address the particular problem of pages not loading unless the mouse is moved.
if you have downgraded to firefox 24 to work around the issue, please go to firefox > options > advanced > update and turn automatic updates back on. then go to firefox > help > about firefox which should trigger the update to firefox 25.0.1.
when you were using firefox 26 beta you can either choose between switching back to the firefox 25 release (the download link is at https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/chann.../#firefox) or stay with the beta version - the latter option has the advantage of receiving new features weeks before they are landing in the regular Firefox versions and being able to sound an early alarm in case such serious regressions are occurring, so there is enough time fixing problems ahead of a general release and minimize the general impact.
thanks for your patience while mozilla's developers have been working on getting this issue fixed!
