I uninstall Firefox due to a problem with the browser showing websites incorrectly after a windows reboot. I attempted then to download firefox from the firefox website and each time the antivirus software detect a virus and remove the installer

this are very likely false-positives. what kind of anti virus software are you using? many of them offer some kind of contact form to report false detections to the vendor so that they can refine their virus definitions...

The antivirus is Microsoft Essentials. This is the same computer I used and same Essential software used to download about a year ago.

ok, this isn't coming from your security software but from IE. if IE flags every download as malicious this by itself might probably be a sign of an infection already present on your system: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/c888dbaf-cd4a-40a2-a75a-6927c7d2844c/ie89-says-every-file-contained-a-file-and-was-deleted
