how do I stop redirects to new tab?

more options

When I click to open some (not all) sites a new tab is generated. Often the new tab is to respond to a survey or simply an advertisement related to the site I originally selected. Example - click Wells Fargo and an additional tab opens that advertises mortgage rates OR click an online retail store URL and the additional tab offers me to take a survey. This issue began when Windows 8.0 was installed. The update to 8.1 did not resolve the issue. My Firefox is version 25. How can I stop these new tabs from opening in Firefox?

被選擇的解決方法

This could be caused by an add-on, by external malware, or by a hacked connection. Let's start with add-ons. Try this:

Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

My version of Firefox does not have the steps you outlined. What is a "UR" option? - thanks for trying to help.
