Why does my history show up as a series of dots and then a number on each line, and how can I fix it?

The URLs used to show up but recently all I get is a line of dots (periods) and then a number at the end. If I copy and paste that line of dots & number it gives me the URL. How can I get history to show me the uncoded URLs?
