When selecting a message that has been downloaded to Thurnderbird, the softward goes into non-response mode for over a minute before the message can be read.
I am a seven-year user of Thunderbird. About three months ago after successfully downloading messages from my email address, ebeenstock@comcast.net, I started having trouble selecting messages to read the content. Whenever I selected a message, the software went into non-response mode for as long as one to two minutes. After that period, the message was selected and I was able to read the content. In an effort to solve this problem, I uninstalled the version of the Thunderbird software that I had been using and downloaded and installed a new version about two months ago. After that, the software work without a problem as it had for seven years. However, beginning about two to four weeks after I installed the latest version of the software, the problem of a selected message going into non-response mode started to occur again. It has gotten progressively worse until now I an not able to use the software. This problem only applies to the inbox. The selection of messages in local folders work properly.

I have the same issue. I have sub-folders, but have been using Thunderbird for many years and this was never an issue, though I had a similar issue a year or so ago because of a McAfee issue that was finally solved. I usually have less than 20 e-mails in my inbox. I delete or file messages daily.

Do you use subfolders in your account? Is there much in the Inbox? Do you compact often?
There is very little in my inbox. I delete messages from it every day. I end up with between five and ten messages in my inbox. For that reason, I have no need to compact it.
