I cannot sign in and am not receiving emails from Mozilla to reset my password or user name.
I changed my email address. When I tried to change this in Mozilla Thunderbird using all the exact same settings as before but with the new email address it did not work. I have tried everything in the support forum to resolve this problem. I need to be able to use emails from my old account and contacts but cannot access them.

You shouldn't change an email address; you should add the new one as a new account. Changing the email address of an account will disconnect it from the previous provider
If you have changed provider then your messages stored in your old account may well still be on the old provider's server and if you have closed or cancelled this account then you will no longer have access to those old messages. They should probably have been copied to your email client (Thunderbird) before you disconnected from the previous supplier.
Have I misunderstood your situation and predicament? Can you explain where you are in any other way? I'm really not sure what's happened.
My emails were copied to Thunderbird before I was disconnected from the provider. And I have tried setting up a new account but have been unsuccessful. I also copied my contact list and saved it as a document but cannot open it as it is a mozilla file. How can I find out whether the port settings are correct for my gmail email address?
I did finally get an email to reset my password.
