After I update to Thunderbird 45 I cannot login to my Windows profile. Windows (8.1) works normally nut creates a temporary profile. When I reset the system to the point before Thunderbird update, everything works normally except that I am unable to launch the previous version of Thunderbird , a message "cannot load XPCOM". I found on the Internet that I have to re-install Thunderrbird. But when I do it the problem with login re-appears. What can I do ?

Hi, Thanks for this quick reply When it comes to the login screen, I enter the password and the system begins to boot. But when normally my profile with all preferences should appear, the system displays a message "Preparing the Windows system" - at least that's the translation from Polish Thinks form some 30 second more and displays a profile similar to the Administrator's profile (at least by appearance, but not functionality) and a message appears "This is a temporary profile, all files will disappear when you log out .... if you want to find out what has happened, please look the the Event's Journal (?)" I looked but found no error message.

I have no idea what the profile name is, it does not appear on the screen.

I need to work, so I restored the system to the last working configuration, I had to re-install Thunderbird (no mail lost) but if the problem re-appears (which is almost certain), I will make a screenshot (no need for instruction) and send it to you, I don't dare to do it now.

My regards Jerzy

I have followed exactly the instruction. My profile was supposedly restored but empty - meaning I lost all data I had stored on my profile. I don't regret the files, I have 100% copies on other disks but I also lost all e-mail accounts since the beginning, I dont have full backup copies and I regret it quite much. The instruction should not suggest that the procedure is easy and flawless, but rather display a warning like "copy everything you can elsewhere" as you can lose all info in your profile
