How to delete sync data?

more options

FF 29 The answer I find is to go to "manage account".

I sign in with my sync email and password.

The choices are:

   Sign out
   Change password
   Delete account

I do not want to delete account. I just want to delete the sync data so I can start fresh? How do I do that?

Hi silat,

Mind if I answer? Mostly everyone who answers questions here is a support volunteer and we do not work for Mozilla. We're just regular Firefox users like yourself contributing our time to help the Firefox community.

As for your Sync account, the only way I know how is to delete your Sync data entirely is to delete your account then register using the same e-mail address. I've tried it on a new Nightly profile and it goes through just fine. Simply head over to https://accounts.firefox.com/settings and select "Delete account". Then just register again. Some other contributors may have another way of doing this (they might reply if they do) but this is the way I know how.

I go to https://account.services.mozilla.com/ There it says if I am using 29 or newer to go: https://accounts.firefox.com/signup I sign in there. These are my choices:

Manage account

You are signed in as

   Sign out
   Change password
   Delete account

There is no "Sync settings>Clear your sync data. Do I ignore the directions to go to the other url as Im using FF29>? If I ignore the directions and sign in as if Im not using FF29 then click on "Clear my sync data" nothing happens. How do I know it cleared?

Once you cleared the SYNC data

Goto - SYNC Setting > Request a quota increase

  • There you can see Currently used Data size

What? That is a request for more space. "We have received your request for more space and will be in touch when we are able to offer you additional space. " When will they respond? The button to clear data appears to be for the old sync correct? Is there no clear way to remove the data in the new sync setup? Do I have to delete the account at https://accounts.firefox.com/? If so then I can make a new account with the same email and a new password? Do you work for Mozilla?

Thanks for replying Moses and iamjay. I do appreciate the responses and the support.

I thought that deleting might be the answer but it is not very clear in the instructions. Mozilla could easily remedy that:)

I have successfully deleted and re-upped.

Thanks again.

It's not straightforward to do a Reset Sync with the new Sync. See Bug 978574 to track that work, if you're interested.

Deleting the account will clear server-side data. You can also do it from a client with a little bit of JavaScript.
