Toshiba Satellite PC running Windows 7.

Got message there was an update for Firefox. Manually clicked on it. After restarting the computer (as directed) I clicked on the Firefox short cut icon and the desktop froze. Alt/control/delete did not function--nothing functioned so forced the laptop to turn off by holding the power button down until it did so. Waited a few minutes and then turned it on, the monitor never came up--just stayed black. After a second attempt the computer turns on, lights on keyboard come on, but monitor remains black. No problems before attempting to update Firefox.

I am writing this on my Mac, as not way to use the PC with a black monitor.

Chosen solution

Did you check that the monitor is still connected properly and that all the cables are plugged in fully?

If you can't get your computer to even turn on, you need to talk to a tech.

One thing to try. Unplug the computer. If it has a battery, remove it. Wait 30 seconds, then try to start.

Sorry for taking so long. Tried your instructions and was able to get desk top to come up. Backed up files before attempting to restore the computer. When I did this it jammed again and circle spun for an hour before I turned power off. Was able to bring desk top up again by just unplugging power for a minute, but any attempt to use computer brings back the spinning circle.

Will take it to a tech.

I noticed on the forum that a number of posts stated the up-date 31 for FF contained a virus. Can't use my virus application to check as it starts circle spinning.

Thank you for your help,

Bob

Any downloads from Mozilla.org only contain the program. If you get the program from somewhere else . . . . . . .

FredMcD,

I am aware of this. I got program from Mozilla.org. I attempted to solve the problem a few more times, and finally Windows 7 did not get the endless circle. Restored Windows 7 to back before the F.F. 31 up-date (July 21st), and now the computer is running perfectly again. Not sure what problem was, but am happy to have computer back.

cor-el,

Yes, I had checked to see is the monitor was correctly connected and all cables were plugged in fully. FredMcD provided a suggestion, and when followed, got me on the was to solving the problem. Computer is now working perfectly.
