I opened Firefox 2 days ago and got a window that is completely black where the webpages would be and the menu/navigation bar is transparent. I know the menus are there because when I scroll over them I get a drop down window, but that is completely black as well. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox multiple times. I have even restored my computer to earlier dates and still the same thing with Firefox.

hello Jaguar6165, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd3000 graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64 bit)

in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode by pressing the shift key while the application is launching & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > general (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

I am running an NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M. The second option worked out great. Thank you.

hello Jaguar6165, thanks for reporting back. even though you have a NVIDIA card as main graphics hardware in your notebook, it is probably a dual-gpu unit since the black screen issue is only occurring with certain intel embedded graphic chips to my knowledge, so it might still be worth updating its driver. for details you can type about:support into the address bar of the browser, there you will see a section about "graphics", where the details about your hardware is listed. if you have Device ID: 0x0102 or Device ID: 0x0116 listed in there, the link about the driver update i've provided above is valid for you...
