The five most recent crashes relate to Firefox stopping when it cannot allocate enough additional memory. System memory use is reported as: 79%, 77%, 88%, 84%, 85% in those cases. After Windows has been running for a long time, free memory often is fragmented into smaller chunks than Firefox requests and so even if there is 20% of memory free, Windows might report there's nothing meeting Firefox's requirements.

Can you tell whether Firefox itself is using up too much memory? You will generally notice Firefox becoming sluggish in that case.

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any less crashy?

No Firefox works fine, doesn't slow down ,it just crashes with no warning.

I will try it in safe mode and see what happens.

If it doesn't crash in safe mode, how can I fix it so it doesn't crash when not in safe mode?

more options

If it doesn't crash in Safe Mode, one of these might be the problem:

  • Graphics card/chipset incompatibility: hardware acceleration is disabled in Safe Mode, and can be manually disabled in regular mode
  • Extension(s): all extensions are disabled in Safe Mode, and nonessential extensions can be manually disabled in regular mode
  • JavaScript compilers: these are disabled in Safe Mode, and can be manually disabled in regular mode
more options

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
