Hello all,

Every time I update adobe flash, the firefox flash plugin does not get updated, even after browser restart. The only effective way of actually making the browser plugin update, is to first remove flash altogether from my PC, and then install it anew.

Example: I had flash version 18.0.0.194 installed, which was causing vulnerability messages. I went ahead with an update from the adobe webpage, and now, in Programs and Features, I can see I've got the newly installed 18.0.0.203 version, but in the Firefox plugin screen, it's still the 18.0.0.194, which still brings up vulnerability messages. Restarting the browser doesn't help.

The question is: how to make the plugin update, without having to uninstall flash everytime? As frequently as flash needs updating, this issue is quite a drawback.

Chosen solution

You have two plugins; Path:

C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_18_0_0_194.dll

C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_18_0_0_203.dll

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Flash Player Version 18.0.0.203
https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
Note: Windows users must download the “Internet Explorer” and “Plugin-based browsers” installers.

In a new tab / window, type about:plugins<enter>. Search for flash, then mark and copy all that information.

Right, The question then is: why is this happening every time I update flash ? And more importantly: how to avoid it ?

Use the links above to remove flash. Then return to the about:plugins page and look for flash again. If there is still a flash listed, copy the link information; C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\' and open your file explorer to that folder. Close Firefox. Then remove the program manually.

Thanks Fred,

unfortunately never got to try the last thing. In fact what happened is that after I've had to restart the whole PC, the plugin did get finally updated in Firefox as well. So now, after the PC restart I have the latest plugin version flying in Firefox.

Cheers for all your assistance.
