Thunderbird continually asks me to enter my imap password but does not accept the correct password when entered
Have tried all the fixes and suggestions I can find in the knowledge base, none of them fix it. This problem is increasing and sometimes it makes Thunderbird unusable it gets so bad. The password I am entering is correct, it shows up as the password I am entering when I look in Thunderbird- Preferences-Security-Passwords-Saved Passwords-Show Passwords. Doesn't anyone else have this problem or know a solution???? I have the problem using a desktop mac, running snow leopard 10.6.8, and it also occurs on same desktop when running 10.8.5 so I do not believe it is an OS problem. This glitch makes the software nearly useless.

Usually these sort of issue are caused by proxies and anti virus programs. There is an underlying error that is coming back to your as a password error. It may be that the server is not found, or a connection can not be made.
Tools menu > error console. Clear the console and hen get mail to force the prompt. What error appear in the error console from that action?
Cleared the console, got this reply / error message.
