I have a number of accounts that have gone dormant and I have gone in and unchecked, under Server Settings: "Check for new messages at startup" and also unchecked "Check for new messages every 10 minutes" - yet I continuously get connection notices saying that Thunderbird could not retrieve email... and it gets very annoying after a while! I don't want to remove the accounts as the email that is archived - then goes away. I just want it to not try to connect when it's not supposed to! Help! :-)

Why not move the content that you want to keep to your Local Folders account and then delete the expired accounts?
