What happened to my tabs?

I work with multiple tabs open. I switch between them all day long. Sometime over the weekend they disappeared. Now I have to hover my mouse at the top of the screen to see them. This is very poor ergonomics and quite frustrating. Can I get them back?

Chosen solution

It sounds like your Firefox went into its "full screen" view. To escape, you can't use the Esc key (that works for media players, but not the browser as a whole). Instead:

  • The F11 key switches between regular and full screen views, so try that first.
  • When you hover the top with the mouse pointer and the toolbar area slides down, if you click the "3-bar" menu button, the Full Screen button should be there to "unclick".
  • When you hover the top with the mouse pointer and the toolbar area slides, down, right-click a blank area of the tab bar (can be tricky with a lot of tabs) and the very short right-click context menu should give you these choices:
    • Hide Toolbar
    • Exit Full Screen Mode
