Can't 'sign in to google to open Thunderbird gmail account - popup freezes

Win 7 SP1 64bit I simply cannot access my gmail account because the popup window 'next' button simply doesn't work. HELP PLEASE. Getting desperate now. Love TB and don't want to work through my browser. Yesterday I added a google account and now TB brings up a screen "Sign in to continue to Thunderbird" but the 'next' button freezes. Is there any fix for this PLEASE. Is it Google's fault or a TB issue. Your help would be most appreciated. Have used TB for many many happy years. I love TB and Firefox loyal supporter - first major issue I cannot find a fix for. I spent hours yesterday googling the problem but nothing helped. By accident I deleted my account in TB and tried to re-create my gmail account in TB but keep getting the 'enter credentials for petergb01@gmail.com and it gets stuck there


I did not change my password only added another account to Google a/c. I deleted my gmail account in TB and now I get this message as soon as I try to set up the account again. Have spent hours on web searching and all to no avail. Called Google and got electronic message that did absolutely nothing to help - just directed me to the sites I've been looking at for ages and they don't help. Kind regards

BUT THIS FIXED IT When creating new account in Thunderbird:

 https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255 and use option 2

Just wanted to note this is also a problem in early bird 54.0a2. Actually the reason i came here, didn't know it was a problem in thunderbird too.

If it has been dropped, why is it still available for download and marked as "newest innovations" ?
