Extremely sluggish after recent update to 52.1.1

Running the 32bit portable version on Windows 10 and after update to 52.1.1 email is extremely slow to load each message, clicking to reply or even write new emails takes a long time to load, 10-20 seconds when it used to be immediate. I've rebooted, not sure what else to try except maybe a roll back but not so sure how to go about it. Any help is appreciated.
