I've used Thunderbird connected to my Yahoo email account for over 3.5 years and then my laptop died. When I installed Thunderbird on my new laptop none of the Yahoo folders appear, just my Inbox. All folders and my contacts migrated under the older version of Thunderbird and the old laptop worked like a champ. Did I miss a step or two on the install set-up?

Wat is your account type - POP or IMAP?

You won't see contacts when setting up an account, as the address book is account independent, and local to your actual Thunderbird installation.

What usually helps is to restore a backup of your Thunderbird profile folder you created recently. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile

Thanks for the reply christ1.

POP, which was the same as on the old laptop.

Next steps?

With POP Thunderbird can only see the Inbox of your account on the server. All mail is downloaded and removed from the server, unless you told Thunderbird to leave messages on the server. Any folders you created with your previous Thunderbird installation were local to your computer. Unless you do have a backup of your Thunderbird profile, they are gone.

I should have that backed up on an external hard-drive. What files should I look for and are the steps once I locate them?
