load pages from addressbar on new tab

I used to use an add-on TabMixPlus that would allow me to have pages from addressbar load o a new tab. This add-on no longer works as it's a legacy add-on.

How can I get to have urls that I type on addressbar load on a new tab rather than to existing tab, and make this my default?

Not a solution. That's a workaround. It should be an optional feature. I've read further and see that I'm not the only one requesting this. I hope that Mozilla is listening to this support page and takes note. I will continue using the Alt-enter mode for now.
