Hi: I just updated ff 54 to 57.0.1 (64bit) on my Windows 7 Pro system. The profiles were kept perfectly. I like 57. Now I need to move the installation folder to a my C: disk, from Q: where I installed ff 40'something originally.

I'm not sure if I can copy the files over or need to reinstall. My concern over reinstalling on the new disk is that I could lose the connection to my profiles.

How should I proceed. Thanks a million :) Torquil

Chosen solution

This is the best way to uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.1 with a Full Version Installer https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Make sure you run the installer using the manual option to place the Firefox folder where you want it.

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user folders would not be affected.

Cheers guys, for making it straightforward to accomplish!

Note that the Firefox profile folder is always located on the Windows system disk in AppData\Roaming and AppData\Local.

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder, so make sure to look in the correct location. Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data in "AppData\Roaming".

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files in "AppData\Local".

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
  • ~/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/
