Why am I getting a blank page when I open a pdf with Nitro

more options

this has happened before and the issue had to do with an add on setting...an addon that I NO LONGER have. So, why is this happening? And PLEASE< PLEASE do not tell me to check my settings. They are all set correctly to default open pdfs with Nitro, everywhere.

Hi,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

No. And I hate doing this. It NEVER fixes a problem and it is a pain in the ass because I have to reset everything. So, do not ask me to try again.

You don't want us to ask you to check your settings either ....

Then let's try Firefox in Safe Mode :

If Firefox is not running : Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. If Firefox is running : 3-bar menu => ' ? ' (at the bottom of the dropdown) => 'Restart with Add-ons disabled'. Then OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click 'Start in Safe Mode' ( not 'Refresh' !)

Does this change anything  ?

This won't change anything - but I thought you might be interested :

I just noticed that you had the exact same problem here :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1169261

That thread has been archived - but maybe you'd like to go over all the suggestions that were posted there (just in case something might work
this time .... )  ?

Your response is not helpful. As stated, I already did basic troubleshooting (as suggested here) and the solution from before is no longer applicable.

Okay. so if someone can come up with a solution that is NOT the canned troubleshooting..is not resetting or uninstalling and reinstalling FF, I would appreciate it. thanks in advance.

Granted : my first suggestion was a 'canned' response - the others were not. If my trying to help you is making you angry : I apologize.

Is the builtin Firefox PDF Viewer still enabled?

You can rename/remove handlers.json and delete mimeTypes.rdf if present in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to reset all file actions.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

If you 'd read my request, it clearly states ALL troubleshooting for this issue was done and that is the FIRST thing I checked. As a matter of fact, now that I had to refresh ff, I have lost a lot of MY functionality and it is not working to MY satisfaction at all as I cannot remember all of MY settings. That is why I did not want to refresh. Besides the fact, it did not eliminate the problem.

Hi, you say an add-on caused this in the past. Sometimes even when removed, they leave their settings behind which just might be interfering.

To check, type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept the warning, scroll down the alphabetical list to extensions. (NAME OF YOUR OLD ADDON) and right click > Reset on any entries then restart Firefox.

That is no longer visible as it is not compatible with 57.

Ok. problem is still occurring.. All posted troubleshooting that could be done, was done. Tab Mix plus no longer exists for current FF. ALL pc settings set to open pdf with Nitro PDF, yet continue to get a blank web page. Is there NO other response for this???

Guess no one has a response that isn't already suggested or done.
